HAHAHAHAHA. I wipe them off when they are exceptionally dirty, but they're usually only clean the first five days of their life with me.

I polish my shoes now, but only because of the whole "kihondosa" thing we have at my company.

I tried to put my canvas tennis shoes in the washing machine a month or so ago, but it didn't help them much. Every other pair only gets the dirt wiped off the soles once a year. If they're lucky.

I clean and polish my shoes when the toes start to look noticeably less nice than the rest of the shoe; usually every couple of months. And I do it for any leather shoe, embellished or not. Q-tips are useful for this.

I don't polish my hiking boots, but about twice a year I run over them with boot dressing to clean them and renew the waterproofing.

I don't own any shoes that aren't leather... I just killed my canvas dance shoes.

Oh, and I own about 7 different colors of shoe polish, in addition to two different leather cleaner/conditioners.

I polish mine--but then, I have to wear black, uniform-ey style shoes, so it's kinda required. :)
