Why let facts get in the way of a good story...

One story I like relates triumphal leaders returning to Rome. These all-conquering heroes were celebrated with all the pomp and circumstance that accompanies glorious victors in an imperial and militaristic society. Huh. I've been thinking along similar lines lately: I'm increasingly finding that the most negative concepts can be completely empowering if you flip them around. Like, "you're going to die no matter what you do" can just as well uplift as it can bring you down. Same with "you're going to do lots of things totally wrong no matter how hard you try." That's sort of liberating!
