Very Big Cat Problem - Help or Advice Needed

Mar 27, 2009 14:54

As you might remember, I had posted some time ago about finding homes for our two cats.  We found them a home, and things are going well with ONE cat, Aurora, who has adapted and is now doing just fine.

However, we have a problem with the other one, Demon.  (he got a new name upon his transfer, but for the sake of consistency, I'll call him that so ( Read more... )

Sounds familiar. ;)
My cat was not good with people at all. A spectacular hunter though, and that's an asset to the right crowd. (by "crowd" I mean ranchers with rodent problems)
When I had nowhere else to turn in giving away my kitty long ago, I went to the animal shelter of Weld County in Greeley. They're great at finding homes for semi-feral cats. Loads of ranches in the area need a few good mousers, and the cats are happy to oblige.
I was allowed to veto giving him up until they found a home for him.. which assured me that he wouldn't end up in a cage in the back of the facility.. the green mile.
So give it a shot. A bit of a trek, sure, but shelters of the more rural persuasion should be able to help you out.
Good luck! Those crabby-cats are valuable.. just get out of the city a ways! :)

Luck, luck, luck!! Since I only have Merlyn left--and we both know he is semi-feral himself, although since Sebastian's passing I am trying hard to get him to be more social--I want another kitty, but not another kitty like Merlyn! I can only imagine the cat fights...holy gods.

But making him a farm cat is an awesome idea. I have various family members back home who have cats they rarely see, but ones that keep the area free of rodents...those cats are very valuable in the right setting, mainly a place that allows them to be, well, cats.

Sending love & hugs (and a little Merlyn magic!)!

Update-

Both cats are hanging out in our bedroom now. Last night and early this AM they both invaded and demanded much in the way of snuggles. Aurora is much more anxious to be let out of the room- but Demon-->Phillip--->Stitch (LOL) is quite content to stay in the room and come out when it suits him. They have food and water in the room and access to a litter box-none of which they had whan they were living like trolls under our stairs.

So things ARE better.

My 5 year old adult cat Tumbles however is a nasty grump to everyone now-like his dominance is threatened. So we still have challenges-but for now the status quo is ok.

Except for being woken by two cuddly hungry cats- heh

I am still so glad I was able to rescue Aurora from you. She is still my little princess and just as snuggly as she can ever be.

I know, why am I posting in LJ? I think FB is getting a bit overcrowded for my taste. I won't leave, but I'll start posting here more.

Girl, we are getting older. Lol
