[For Brad]

It feels almost clandestine, the way Nate's gone about this, and were circumstances any different, he'd worry that he was being too controlling. Iraq had effectively cured him of any of those impulses, however, and the truth of the matter was that it came down to simple privacy. Brad happens to be living with Ray Person, and this isn't your average social call.

When he asks Ray after class to tell Brad that he needs to talk to him later, it's delivered like an order to avoid any questions, and succeeds in that well enough on his end.

He doesn't know what the fuck he's going to say when Brad gets there. How do you even begin a conversation like that? How do you frame it without seeming demeaning or lewd or out of your depth- Which, for the record, Nate most assuredly is. Most of the time they were in Iraq he was less nervous than he is right now, and that includes when they were under fire. It's different, though, and he recognizes that: With this, somehow, he himself has more to lose.
