[For Terry]

It's astonishing, really, how ordinary (For a given island value of ordinary, anyway) all the other aspects of Nate's life can be when his love life has suddenly turned anything but. He's thought about it from every possible perspective, broken it down, weighed the logic of something inherently illogical, but still it catches him off guard sometimes, the sheer idea of it. Bigger than just about anything he's ever done, with the possible exception of joining the Marines, and certainly bigger than he's fully capable of comprehending.

To wit: He can be standing here in the kitchen, pouring himself a cup of coffee. Somewhere, wars are being fought, babies are being born, people are going to their nine to fives, and he has both a girlfriend and a boyfriend. It's not remotely unpleasant, but it still doesn't quite parse, and he keeps wondering if he's missed some horrible, gaping fault in this plan. By all rights, it shouldn't be working this well.
