[For Terry]

It's astonishing, really, how ordinary (For a given island value of ordinary, anyway) all the other aspects of Nate's life can be when his love life has suddenly turned anything but. He's thought about it from every possible perspective, broken it down, weighed the logic of something inherently illogical, but still it catches him off guard ( Read more... )

For all that it seems this place wants to mess with everyone as often as it can, Terry's in a surprisingly good mood. Compared to the lamest of threats any two-bit supervillain's thrown her way, a little mud and slush only reminds her of a warm winter day in midtown Manhattan. Were it not for the palm trees, she could almost imagine for a few moments she was back home.

Having tugged off her sneakers before entering the compound to keep from tracking mud inside, Terry lets them swing from their shoelaces as she walks down the hall and into the kitchen. Copa Cabana's filtering through from the rec room, and she's humming it without realizing as she drops her shoes by the door.

"Is there enough for another cup?" she asks the man, giving him a smile in greeting before reaching into a cupboard to grab a mug.

"Absolutely," Nate answers with a ready smile, and reaches to steady her cup with he pours the coffee into it. There's barely enough for a quarter cup left in the pot when he's done, and so immediately sets about pulling out filters and grounds to make another for whomever might happen along after.

"I like your accent," he remarks, tossing a glance over his shoulder. "Is that Irish?"

"Aye, tis," Terry replies as she scoops sugar into her mug. This is one of the better variations of the question, and when asked so politely, she doesn't mind.

(The people who ask if she knows any leprechauns, she has to resist the urge to punch. Never mind that she actually does.)

"Was born and raised in Ireland, though I've spent more time stateside than back home."

"I've always wanted to go," Nate says as he pours the water into the coffee maker and dutifully flips the switch. "It's beautiful country, if the Travel channel is to be believed."

He reaches for the sugar, stirs two spoonfuls into his coffee before taking a tentative sip. "I envy you your cultural heritage, too. The States is such a convergence of cultures, we don't really get that same sense of identity. I've always wondered what it must be like."
