Um, um, the Articles of Confederation were the 13 colonies' first stab in 1777 (76?) at drafting any sort of unifying document that would (theoretically) free them from British 'tyranny.' Quotes, because the American colonists were whiny little bitches who didn't want to pay taxes. One of the more relevant quotes is the bit about 'perpetual unification' or something of the states. I think it'd help if you gave the original document a skim, so if you have the time...

Oh god, APUSH, it's been so long.

You might also want to look over the Federalist vs anti-Federalist battle, that involves the whole centralized government (reminiscent of monarchy) vs a less centralized one (NO MORE TYRANNY, BITCHEZZZ) shindig.

Pulling this all out of my ass, hope it's not too late. (Probs is. Well, it depends on where you are in the States, I guess.)

Thank you!
I didn't see this until after I'd taken the test, and we haven't gotten to any of the material you suggested to cover, but whatever, thank you for helping anyway. ♥
