NEW YORK - Students are using a new ring tone to receive messages in class -- and many teachers can't even hear the ring.

Some students are downloading a ring tone off the Internet that is too high-pitched to be heard by most adults. With it, high schoolers can receive text message alerts on their cell phones without the teacher knowing.

Ah man, that noise is terrible.
Why doesn't just putting cellphones on vibrate do the job?

It's the thrill of the teacher not being able hear cause they are old I guess. And vibrating phones make noise that can be heard by anyone.

Test it on your parents. Especially the NPR one. Just to make sure theres no placebo effect.

As to young teachers, ...... I have no witty response so bite me.

thats very interesting. after i read it here i heard them talking about it on 107.7 the end. that was fun. but pretty much i'm not an old fogey and i heard it. although it just sounded like a high pitched noise.. nothing painful.. maybe cuz i'm younger than you!! or not *Shrug*

...my mom couldn't hear her goddamn brakes going... the pitch was so high that it was ear-piercing for me. Every time she stops the van, I want to die. And I just found out yesterday that my dad can't hear them either. Damn old people...
