Much of the time, yes. When it comes to the mathy bits and various loop functions to accomplish it, I generally "visualize" the structure before I start writing commands for it.
But I employ a few guerilla tactics when I program, and I'm pretty bad at catching my mistakes (which is why there are so many lines with the print command; I have to have it spit numbers at me to check that it's functioning correctly)
I'm so jealous. My brother recently started using Linux and it's very tempting to pick up coding again, but I already have so much of my free time spoken for that I never get around to it.
I know what you mean. I did this because I'm getting paid and it should help with prospective graduate studies/research. I enjoy coding (in moderation), but I'd much rather spend my free time on music and art.
I also don't have enough patience to get serious about programming.
