What a wondeful reflection, thank you for sharing. I really appreciate the aspect of this where you outline how Cody's reliance on you is how you wish to relate to God. I know as a somewhat independent person myself I personally try to push along myself, sometimes get an idea of my own, and try to remarket it as God's call for me. But to be truly humble before God we do have to have total trust and confidence in Him. The trust of a small child, or perhaps a dog to their owner is a perfect image. Really fitting that you use Psalm 23, because Cody's dependence on you is like a sheep for their shepherd, which is how we are supposed to look to Jesus. The sheep know their shepherd's voice, as we as the faithful know Christ's voice. What an unpopular image in the modern world for us to be painted as, as sheep. To be simple trusting followers, it's so counter cultural, but isn't so much of what Christians are supposed to live out, and are called to profess?
