The joys of parenting

Jun 24, 2007 11:19

Let me preface this by saying that my 18-year old daughter (19 in August) is incredibly helpful. She really saves me a lot of effort, esp. by going to the grocery store. But she can also really be a twat. When she's in her room, she absolutely wants to be left alone. Period. But of course there have been times when she calls Mom for help, like ( Read more... )

I kinda hope she doesn't have kids. Of course, she might actually grow up and have some maturity catch up to her intelligence. And, again, she is incredibly helpful--just a bitca. :-) At her age, I was a bitca to my parents and not even remotely helpful. So by comparison, I've lucked out. :-)

Thanks for the hugs, Sweetie (and whoever else participated :-) ).

*hugs you tight*

She'll grow out of that, eventually. She may even get to the point where she understands what you're telling her. But I know, meanwhile, it's trying and hurtful. *hugs you again*

Many thanks for the hugs. And hi! Sorry I haven't been around. The fatigue has been making it impossible to do the slightest fraction of what I want to do.

And, yeah, I know she'll grow up some. Although even in my 30's I never wanted to take my dad's advice (my mother passed away when I was 25).

And I've been managing to give the cat her meds, although it's not even remotely within the realm of fun. :-)

Oh hell. The cat. Totally out of context. She was really such a complete and total bitch the other day that I just told her to go to her dad's house even though I could have really used her help giving the cat meds. It was just like, I'd rather deal w/it myself than deal w/ her.

You're the best mom, I swear. Teens can be so evil, I remember. The parental curse will teach her, as said before. I'll shut up now. Trying to be supportive. *Grin*

You are extremely and consistently supportive, Sweetie! I'm sorry I haven't been around to see what's up w/ you and try to be supportive myself. The fatigue thing as I said to mickeym above.

I am NOT the best mom ever, but when the kid accuses me of getting on her case, I tell her that she hasn't remotely experienced a parent getting on her case compared to so many other kids. Given how stubborn and nonconformist she is, she has no fucking idea how lucky she is--wrt both her parents.

Statistically, I wonder how many kids learn about fanfic from their moms. Probably a lot more than you'd expect. :-)

Ahhh teen angst...

I am beginning to think you need to let a gecko run free in the house :)~

But then I'd be freaking out too. :-)

And I'm the one who suffers angst in this household--or "self-pity parties" as the little bitca refers to them. In her case, it's teen arrogance.
