You won't fucking believe what just happened--

Well, about an hour and a half ago actually. I was at my computer, and I heard this loud metallic BANG and vibration, followed by another. Couldn't see anything from the house that could have caused it, and went outside. A neighbor's teenage daughter said "A truck just drove into your garage door!" Well, damn, if it didn't. We have one of ( Read more... )

That is simply amazing...

Too bad you don't have a cam on the garage as you could be #1 on youtube LOL

Well, now that I'm retired, that is my #1 goal in life. NOT. :-) But it would have been nice to have the episode filmed just for the weirdness and entertainment value. I'm assuming the driver was, shall we say, inebriated, but he backed out w/out hitting my car on the other side of the driveway. Maybe he had one of those flashes of "OH SHIT!" soberness you can get when you're under the effect of mind-altering substances and something involving a hard bump and a loud noise temporarily restores your sense of reality, if not your ethics. If you ever had them.

Oh my god!!! What if you just wanted to come out of that garage!
What a ass just to drive off!! (Nice neighbor though).
Obviously you should prosecute!! I mean he just left you with the mess.
I am really angry at that driver as well.
So selfish!

Good luck!

Well, my garage is too full to walk in and out through the main door anyway. Or at least you could get a few steps inside, but you'd never get to the door to the house. I haven't heard anything from the police, so I kind of doubt they'll catch him now. As to the driver, besides selfish, I believe he was quite drunk--my driveway really doesn't look any stretch of roadway, esp. w/ a white garage door straight ahead. So I'm sure his judgment was probably impaired. Like VERY impaired. I haven't heard any news of him turning himself in either. He probably doesn't want to be prosecuted for hit and run and having to pay for the new garage door.

I believe anything-

and I'm so glad they totalled your garage door rather than your vehicle.

3 of my friends have been in wrecks in the last 10 days or so, all of them total losses.

I'm being very careful out there..

Well I was in a small parking lot accident, entirely my fault, backing up straight too far and hitting the car on the other side of the driveway, but in a straight line behind me. It's the deductible on that one I'm dreading. The woman, who had been walking to her car, was understandably very angry, and very hesitant to give me information, and I kept explaining that the more info she gave me the more I could give to my insurance company and the faster they could work w/ her insurance to process her claim.

I'm sorry to hear about your friends. Dealing with a totalled car is just NOT something I have the energy to deal with on my own. But let's not go there.

I'm trying to be extra careful driving b/c my own concentration is not at its best. I talk myself through intersections, like "Ok, this is a green light, but no arrow, so you can't go until the cars on the other side have." Stuff like that.

Glad you're careful. I am, too.

Accidents happen... but she didn't want to give YOU information after you hit her? That's odd. Something's wrong there and it has nothing to do with you-here's what I'm thinking. She wasn't driving a car that actually belonged to her, she is uninsured herself, or she has wants and warrants.

Think about it-anybody legal and sane would be delighted to be hit by someone who stuck around and actually wanted to provide information to them. So you probably hit someone you'll never see again who was hoping not to be seen driving that car at all.

My psychic hotline just rang up and said "suspended license". Yeah. That would totally explain her behavior. She's running scared.

When the pain is bad like this I can drive.. it's the walking anywhere, or even out to the vehicle and back that makes it all a moot point. I can drive, I just can't walk anywhere..
