Se7en-vid: John Doe - Around the Corner

charmax and little moi were insane enough to attempt a speed challenge and what better way to start something like that then to make your decision, rip the DVD, set your project up and then go shopping for a whole day to avoid the dreadful deadline? Yeah, I made up for it by doing a all nighter and then another one, because creativity is best attended without any social disturbances and there are lurking more parallels between it an a serial killer in the shadow.

Artist/Song Title: Tricky - Hell Is Around The Corner
Subject: Se7en, John Doe PoV
Summary: ‘Distant drums bring the news of a kill tonight.’ He wants to be heard and actions speak louder than words.
Warning: R - Disturbing images, blood and scribble
Format: 720x304 - 44.9 MB AVI or watch on BAM

First of all I have to say that all pieces Charmax selected for my movie list were divine and I probably will go back to two or three because vidding movies is extreme fun. Second the prompt with ‘I love this song’ and ‘it might be a bit of a challenge’ sold me on this one in combination with my mood. To make this the killer PoV intrigued me most about this project. I wanted to do a ‘no eyes on the main character’ approach for a long time, so this was an experience that worked pleasantly well for me. The only time you see John Doe clearly is at the end, but the sociopath is the one handing out the cards and invite the two cops to play.

The atmosphere of the song and Se7en’s stellar directing didn’t hurt in this regard and doing this vid made me realize how much detail they packed into this movie, I hope it shines through. Actually I don’t feel like I missed stuff because of the 48 hours limit we set, which was the one thing I feared before that I would post a vid that I didn’t feel was finish. This is and I’m really happy about the way it turned out, so Charmax we do this again, right?

Technical notes worth mentioning? This differs slightly from my usual style, clearer and less colour enhanced, mostly because the grim look of the movie didn’t need playing around and the few colours used in it are very bright. Fast cuts just worked with the song and were a nice and convenient way to intersect longer shots for me.
