Subject: Deadwood, Al & Bullock PoVs

Reasons to vid ‘Buenos Dias’? Well, it has a religious reference in the title - Sorry, but I had to get that out of my system. This one was again completely unintentional. So after I finished my Deadwood marathon with Sandra a few months ago I wanted to vid this show and this particular song came first to mind. I said jokily that I should do this vid and her cheering along with the crazy idea was all the encouragement I needed to do this Christmas vid for her. Foremost the sound is fucking right - Deutscher Sprechgesang mets Western atmosphere and the lyrics - after cutting out the first verse - are pitch perfect for Al and Bullock and their coexistence and how their relationship evolved in the dawning of Hearst’s arrival.

Lyrical interpretation: I haven’t done a German song since my very first vidding days and so it was actually refreshing and cool experience to do this in my native language. Plus I’m a big Fanta 4 fan, I was growing up with their music and I just love their style. Every album of theirs is mind-blowing and I adore they way they have fun with words and music and aren’t afraid to try out something completely different like this song.

So the lyrics come down to the house rules - Al’s control over Deadwood and how the new kid in town won’t fuck up his best laid plans. Then it changes as relationships between two men grudgingly respecting each other do and Bullock has some rules of his own and a short temper to enforce them. Because it isn’t about choosing the lesser evil in Al - Hearst pisses him off and so he has his own personal reasons to hate his guts. So there is one statement I had to think around and that was the killing part of the implied grand Western duel - because as happy I would have been if Hearst would have seen his end, the show ended on a different note and so it became about their ways to get rid of the fucker - for good.

The Journey? Was a pleasure with xandra-ptv at my side to whine about my lack of focus on the plot and more on their deep and meaningful glances over shared whiskey shots. I restrained myself with her help from the slash and yeah, then it was only a matter of days. Fast vidding is ridiculous satisfying.

Technical notes worth mentioning? None.

Final note: Well, that’s for my best friend with much love.
