…because I'm an idiot.

Updated!

Naruto Plot Bunnies for Adoption
Updated as of 7/31/07. New Bunnies numbered in red.

Mostly Sakura-based with a distinctive lean towards Itachi/Sakura. Take what you will.

1. The sealing statue holding the captured bijuu is destroyed during a battle. Through intention or accident, Sakura becomes a jinchuuriki of a freed bijuu. She has tremendous (and understandable) difficulty accepting and controlling her new power/identity, all while facing numerous threats.

2. After an unexpected death of a medic trainee leaves Sakura out of touch, she takes the civilian route to refresh. Traveling from town to town, she trades her medic abilities for lodging and food. She doesn't expect to become entangled in a plot to overthrow the local government of a no-name village or team up with a blinded S-class missing nin and member of the disbanded and defeated Akatsuki...
Additionally -- Remember the Search for Tsunade arc? I'd love to see Sakura in an emotional position similar to Tsunade's at that time of her life. What made her go civilian? Does she have plans to return? What does she spend her time doing? Does she keep in touch with anyone? To me, this story would be more of a Sakura-centric fic than romance focused. As for Itachi... his motivations should be highly questionable but his actions should be straightforward. I'd like to see what happens to this power-hungry clan killer when he becomes obsolete, and, to his mind, useless. What does a killer do when he can no longer kill effectively?

3. A missing finger. Seriously. Sakura is injured in such a manner that leaves her without a digit. And, well, that's going to fuck up ninja skills. Someone unexpected helps her re-train her injured hand to accommodate for the missing finger.

4. The other ANBU ops had always warned her not to get tattooed outside of Konoha. It's hard enough to heal yourself when you're not tripping out on poisonous ink. To add insult to injury, the tattoo isn't what she picked, and attracts attention she'd rather not have.

5. The slashed hitai-ate is a pretty defining symbol. While on a mission, Sakura's is scratched leaving her mistaken repeatedly for a missing nin.

6. A lot can happen in 72 hours. Itachi's Mangekyou Sharingan is used with a new goal in mind: instead of torture, a fake timeline is created in which Sakura's life is altered completely. When the jutsu is released, she's not sure what is real and what isn't.

7. The Icha Icha series is being edged out by stiff competition by an unknown author. The author will remain unknown if Sakura has anything to say about it.

8. Morino Ibiki is growing increasingly suspicious of one Haruno Sakura.

9. Accidently stumbling into the midst of a ROOT planning session, Sakura quickly becomes a target by members of her own village.

10. Samehada only allows Kisame to weild it. But even sentient objects are allowed to change their minds, even if that means the sword switches allegiance to a kunoichi of impressive strength -- that is shorter than it. Kisame is not amused.

11. A civilian village requests advanced bodyguards to protect a wedding ceremony. The Konoha shinobi are shocked to discover the bride is a former comrade and the groom an infamous, previously thought deceased, missing-nin. Will they protect the two in their attempt at establishing domestic mediocrity, or give up the mission for the sake of the village?

12. Sakura is willing to die for Sasuke - but not for his revenge. However, it’s a difficult line to determine, especially when Sasuke is all too willing to allow her death.

13. When Sakura has a strange reaction to what should be a common jutsu, she draws attention from all. Is there something in the history of the jutsu that gives her exception, or is it Sakura herself? Many would like to know.

14. Two supposed strangers begin an awkward conversation. Neither is who they say they are, and they both know the other is hiding something. Genjutsu is a terrible thing to break.

15. It isn't that Itachi doesn't acknowledge Sakura during battles. It's that he doesn't want anyone to know of a curious inability to injure her physically. The Harunos may be civilians but they knew how to drive a hard bargain, and the Uchihas were willing to agree to just about anything to protect the reputation of their blooming prodigy, even if it meant sealing his ability to hurt a pink haired child.

16. A new village is courting infamous shinobi to join its ranks. Some of their recruitment techniques leave much to be desired.

17. Itachi’s eyes are weakened to the point that he can only ‘see’ through sharingan, and even then, his sight is limited to the brilliant ebbs and flows of chakra. The more he witnesses Sakura fight, the more he appreciates the resulting fireworks of chakra she produces.

18. It was a well known fact that every shinobi of Konoha had a distinctive collection or habit that made them unique. Sakura, it turned out, had a talent for mysteriously acquiring children. As the children grow and exhibit very peculiar abilities, it becomes more and more obvious that Sakura is keeping some very big secrets.
