Nope, the bank said that despite it being lost in the post, they charge a standard £10 regardless - they say they always have and all banks do (which is clearly not true from syllopsium's link)
If it were me, i'd wait a few more days. If it still didn't arrive i would just send another cheque and rely on the seller's honesty not to cash both if they both showed up.
I'm not saying that's good advice at all - it's just what i would do. I'd rather take the risk of both being cashed than let the bank rip me off by charging me a cancel fee. I mean, how difficult can it be to cancel a cheque?! Surely not ten pounds worth of difficult.
I hope the bank come round and cancel it for you without charging you a ten pound fee for something that clearly wasn't your fault at all.
