Have you ever seen a fan fiction and thought it should be published? Have you ever asked yourself "how could someone be so awesome?" Well, I have. In my third interview, I got a chance to go heart to heart with a very good friend of mine: Liseve (ld611)
Although I was her friend before I found out she was a writer, Allyssa (Lieve (ld611)) blew me away when I read her fanfiction, "The Signs That Matter", which deals with an AU that not many people dare to work with: a disabled main character. The story follows Noah, who starts school at the local college after moving into town with his father, and pinpoints on the sudden attraction and friendship he has with Luke, was lost his hearing due to an accident while as a child.
How did you get into ATWT? I mean, the only reason I got hooked was to watch Nuke, but what about you?
For me, I hate watching a show and not knowing the whole story. When I started watching Nuke, I only watched the episodes uploaded onto LukeVanFan’s YouTube and if I was home in time, the live episode when only Nuke was on. Then I saw other storylines that were on the same day and gained a bit of interest in them too, so I thought, “Why not watch every day?”. Now, thanks to DVR, I record every day’s episode (though sometimes I don’t feel like watching it and will watch 3 in a row on the weekend, haha). And the rest, as they call it, is history.
In your mind, who do you see as the “bottom” and who as the “top”?
Oh, I’ve known the bottom/top situation since I first laid my eyes on the two beauties. Noah would defiantly top (but I believe he’d be up for some rounds on bottom too!) while Luke is bottom.
I can only imagine how many times you and your Nukie friends have probably joked around with this, but on a serious note: Jansis, do you think it’s real?
If you want me to be really, really, really realistic, I’d say - no. But do I believe they have done at least SOMETHING outside of the studio? YES. I’m sorry! There’s just way too much chemistry that comes off the two outside of the ATWT studio to not believe they have done a lil’ somethin’ somethin’!
Tell me, what do you think of LuRe?
I was against it at first, but my best friend, who never liked Noah to begin with, fell for LuRe so I reluctantly got into them myself. And I’ll even say that they do have chemistry and have pretty good kisses! *hides* Now, do I think they’ll be endgame? Hell no. I’ve discussed the logistics of LuRe and Nuke with some of my ATWT friends and we’ve come to one conclusion - LuRe is lust. Nuke is love.
Other than Nuke, what other maleXmale couples have you fallen for?
If it wasn’t for Jack/Ennis of Brokeback Mountain, I would’ve never found Nuke! But besides Jack/Ennis, I also love Christian/Olli of the German soap “Verbonte Liebe”, Tom and Eli from “All Over the Guy”, and Phillip and Steven from “I Love You Phillip Morris”
What is your absolute favorite fanfic written by another author?
It’s a tie between a couple, lol - “Noah’s Life” by Lacon, “For Luke, Forever Ago” and “Business or Pleasure?” by Lostaway, and finally “A New York Love Story” by indigo_5. I followed “Noah’s Life” for almost a year and a half and it made me fall in love with the character of Noah Mayer even more than I already had; FLFA, because it’s the only fanfic that I CRIED while reading the last two chapters; “Business or Pleasure” because it was so tastefully romantic and made me want to learn French REALLY badly; and “A New York Love Story” because I always saw the potential of the V-day episode and then BAM, this fanfic shows up giving me everything I wanted. Plus, I almost cried reading that one too, sooo…
Favorite Nuke scene? Please explain why.
Well I’m sure some of you would, right off the bat, say the 1/12/09 episode where Nuke have sex. But while that was an amazing day, I have to say it’s not my all-time favorite. Actually, I have three.
1) The “Time is What I Have” scene. It’s one of the most well-written (IMO) Nuke scenes I’ve ever seen and it shows, through a limited amount of contact, how much they were in love.
2) The entire Cyndi Lauper episode. Sure, it sucked when Noah suddenly went all “Uhhhh, I’m joining the army. Peace!” but the anticipation, the amazing-ness of Cyndi Lauper, and the happiness the each and every Nuke fan shared that day was truly amazing. I’m so glad that I got to be a part of that day!
3) The “red hoodie” day back in ’07. You know, the one where Luke stands up for Noah. My reasoning for choosing this one - because Noah looked so hot in that episode that I just wanted to get into the computer screen and jump his bones. Yeeeeeah, not the most sentimental reasoning, haha.
Favorite Nuke kiss? Please explain why.
The first kiss from the day they had sex. I just remember us getting that clip on Friday and having to wait the entire weekend, watching that kiss maybe a 1,000 times…drooling, drooling, drooling and thinking to ourselves - “How the hell are they going to go from having a kiss like THAT to eating ice cream with Grandma?” Have sex in between those two scenes - that’s how!
Favorite Nuke (or just Luke or Noah) quotes? Please explain why, what ep’ and what was going on while the quote was said.
You really are making me think today, aren’t you? Well it’s between two. Sorry, I’m not good on picking just one!
1) “Well time…time is what I have”. I’m sure that episode needs no explanation and if so, just go onto LukeVanFan, Part 98. I just love it. It’s so sweet and I feel like it means as much to us fans now as it did back in ’07. Except instead of Luke saying it, Noah would be saying it nowadays.
2) “In the dark, I really feel like I could escape to anywhere. To a place where anything could happen at any time. Where chaos could reign but the world would never end.” This was said in a ’07 when Luke and Noah went for the swim to the Snyder pond. I never hear people mention this quote but for some reason, I’ve always loved it. Especially the last line. Oh Mayer.
I gotta know . . . Luke or Noah? Please explain why.
For the first month and a half, Luke. For every month after that from ’08 to present, Noah Mayer. You can ask my twin (another Nukie, none-related friend) and we’ll tell you. We have NO idea how we became such Noah fans! We both used to be into Luke so much and then one night, after we did a PBP watching the old episodes from ’07, we wake up the next day thinking “I’m in love with the character of Noah Mayer”. And since then, I’ve loved him. He’s been through so much yet he’s the kindest and gentlest person Oakdale has ever met. I just wish the ATWT writers saw the potential that was Noah Mayer.
What song, when you hear it, makes you automatically think of Nuke? Aside from True Colors, of course.
“If You’re Not the One” is the song that automatically makes me think of them. I blame the beautiful Nuke music video made to that song.
You’re one of the few, that when you write an AU fanfic, take it to a new level by having one of the two have a disability. Where did you come up with that concept?
My interest in writing a fanfic that involved Luke being deaf was inspired by my friends in school. I had at least three of my close friends take ASL around the same time and they would constantly sign back and forth to each other and tell me all this random information about the deaf culture. So one day, I thought - “I don’t think this has ever been done before. It’s worth a shot” Ironically, a year and a half after I started writing it, Noah becomes blind.
Can you grant us with some surprise spoilers on any upcoming Nuke and/or Jansis fics you’ll be writing in the future?
Well, I hate to say this because I really don’t want you guys to be like “She’s writing another one!” but who cares. I’ll say it anyways.
I’m starting another fic with one of them having a disability. It wasn’t on purpose. I was talking one night to a fellow Nukie and we said we missed this fic about Luke having autism. We are still waiting for an update! Anyway, after we gushed about loving the fic, my friend joked that I should try my hand at writing something like that. I told them straight off the bat that if I did, I’d never write one of them having Autism. By the end of the light, I figured exactly what I was going to do.
Noah would suffer from a slight mental disorder or as me and my fellow Nukie called it “Forrest Gump!Noah”. I’ve started the first 2 chapters and I’m very excited to possibly be posting it up sometime soon.
Aside from that, I have some one-shot ideas that involved Reid since, according to my twin, I know exactly how to write his lines. I’m debating between a Reid/Henry or Reid/Chris romance one-shot. Which one do you guys like better? Place your bets here! And as for Jansis - I can’t spoiler anything right now because it’s still in its early stages. Many, many things still need to be figured out before I even start writing it up. But, hopefully, you can expect a glimpse around the end of this month.
I’ve written in first person a couple times, but it never seems to work for me. What about you? Do you prefer first or third?
I’ve realized after writing “The Signs That Matter” (the deaf!Luke fic) that 3rd person is NOT for me. I write better, faster, and easier when I’m in first. I guess for me, I love getting into the minds of my characters. I hate having to explain actions because I feel like I have the lamest adjectives and verbs to describe it. But thoughts; actually being the character, is truly something amazing.
I’ve been writing since I was young, though I never knew it would take me places. How did you get into writing?
I started when I was young as well. Everyone told me I had a very active imagination and that if I just put it onto paper, it would take me places. I remember writing short stories on paper about the randomness situations like a girl who could fly and shoot fire out of her hands. Now, it wasn’t until 3 years ago that I thought “Well, maybe writing is worth it. Maybe I can do this” and started writing fan fiction for the first time.
Have you ever thought about writing professionally?
Yes, I have. Not as serious as one of my friends who has a 130-page word document (It's actually 141 pages...but thats for another day) and a screenplay waiting for someone to take and publish, but I have an idea (and characters) that I’ve wanted to write for the last three years. I don’t want to say anything more about it though since I don’t want to jinx it.
What advice do you have to new up and coming writers?
Don’t be like me. Be persistent and take time every day to sit down and write. Be passionate and don’t be afraid of what people might think of your idea. Take suggestions from your readers and again, don’t be like me. I’m a very, very lazy writer.
I hope you liked it; I sure as hell had alot of fun doing it. Allyssa was my first Nukie friend and without a doubt one of the greatest people I will ever know, so to actually interview her as a fanfic writer was a real trip. The Jansis fic she was speaking of is one we'll be working on together, but as she said, it's still in the early stages. Also, we're going to be writing a Nuke fic together, one I am very excited about, because it has so much angst, and sadness, and comfort, and love in it...I'm sure some of you will love it. "The Signs That Matter" is located on the VanHansis website, I'll post the link below. You have to be a member to read, so if you haven't already done so, join. I'm also on there, but I never post. Thank you again for reading. I'll have a special treat for you guys next time I post. So, until then, this is ekc1993 saying Stay Nukie!
