why do so many people require, in anticipation of creating a friends-only journal, to force people to comment on a certain post in order to be added or kept on the friends list? is life too personal? must we shun others from our lives in order to make our own better

i went friends only because i was sick of my mom reading my journal, seeing something that she didn't like and then questioning me about it. so in essense, i am doing something about the problem. i might not even keep it that way... who knows at this point?
on a sidenote, i guess it's easier just telling people to comment if they want to be added in the future. rather than them wanting to be friends with you, but feel they aren't allowed and whatnot. to me, at least, making people comment is more a way for new friends to happen, rather than to get rid of old ones.
anywhoo... that's my opinion at least.
