Willy and I have spent the entire day replenishing the stockroom with supplies. The restaurant supply company loves us. We've spent a ton of money with them lately trying to keep up with the extra customers we've had. Our blood supplier is quite happy, too. Most of the new demons in town seem to be vamps ( Read more... )

The shop being fairly quiet, I decide that I deserve a lunch hour off and had off to Willy and Astraeia to grab something to eat. And catch up on the latest gossip. At least, I hope there's some latest gossip - I've heard snatches off what's been going on recently, but what with Buffy breezing in and out at random times and launching most of her concentration directly into the long suffering punch bag in the back room, well, let's just say that she's not been big on conversation recently...

I take a seat at one of the tables and look around.

I'm deep into an article about feng shui and sexuality when I hear the door open. I glance up and see Anya seat herself at a table. Jennifer has gone to take her drink order, and as she bustles off to the kitchen, I walk over to her table and sit down.

"Hey, Anya! Long time no see." I smile at her.

I look up and see Astraeia smiling down at me. Good, she can talk to em and keep me entertained whilst I eat my lunch. I glance round and see that the place isn't busy - even better, she will have no distractions.

"Hiya. I was hoping that I could get some lunch and possibly gossip - maybe you could help me with that?"

"We aim to please here at Willy's Bar & Grill." I wink and tuck one foot underneath my leg. "Where have you been? I haven't seen you in ages. 'Course, I've been here dealing with the hordes of demons in town, all of whom want to visit the local demon bar."

"That's probably the best plan." I watch as the door opens and several of the aforementioned vamps come inside. Lovely. I tear my gaze away from them.

"I'm glad you came in today when it's not quite as busy. Things will be dead by the end of the week with the holidays." I frown slightly. "You know, I don't understand American holidays. Why would they place two events where you are supposed to eat your weight in heavy foods one month apart?" That's something I never got.

"Me either - though I often think that Americans may feel the need to hibernate, it could be a throw back. Why else would you want to consume so much food in such a small space of time?" I keep an eye on the vampires that have entered the bar. It's usually pretty safe in here, especially if you're seen chatting to Astraeia but I often say that one cannot be too careful, especially with my now mortal status.

"Yes, that's entirely possible," I say. "They can't be gaining a dress size during the winter on purpose." I shrug. Americans. Who knows? Their customs seem as strange sometimes as those of Fyarl demons. Then I have an idea. "I should ask Taffy or Stef for their opinions. You remember Taffy, don't you? The girl we rescued from the cemetery that time?"

"Taffy, white witch type? Oh yes, I remember her. She tried to attack me the other day with bunnies. She is not always a very nice person." I bristle once more at the memory.

"Well, you know how much of a weakness I have for trouble-prone guys. Must come from being a vengeance demon for men. And he's the boyfriend of another friend who needed my help." I miss Izzy. Too bad she'd moved away from here.

"Let me tell you, Willy wasn't too keen on me going, either. But hey, anything for a friend."

"I never did understand that in you." I take a sip of my drink. "How is Willy anyways? Still all in one piece?"

I look round the room, wondering if he's about, but there's no sign of him. Those vampires are still there though, and I have to admit - though I'd never admit it aloud - they're making me a little uncomfortable, with the looks they're throwing my way. I guss that's the risk you run when you frequent demon bars, but the threat of 'hey mister, watch who you're dealing with, I'm an ex-vengance demon' doesn't carry much weight round here.

"He's still upstairs," I tell her. "He's closing tonight. I'm doing my best to keep him out of trouble these days."

I follow her gaze. "Hey, don't worry about them. They had to come in here through the tunnels -- still daylight and all."

It has to be rough for her... remembering what it was like to be immortal and powerful.

Of course, I notice that look on her face and I know what she's feeling. To sum it up in one word - pity. Pity for me that I'm human now. It annoys me slightly - okay, so yes, there are times when I miss the vengenance game and there are times when I wish - in the lightest sense of the word and definitely not saying that one aloud - I had never come to Sunnydale in the first place. But I have to admit, I'm getting used to the human thing now and at times it's not all bad. Not bad enough that I have to have my friends pity me. Not bad enough at all.

"Me? I'm, I'm not worried about them. Not worried at all," I say, confidently. So, okay, I'm maybe the tinsiest little bit, apprehensive, but not worried....

I laugh, the idea od Astraeua attempting an All American style Thanksgiving is almost too good to pass up. "I may just do that," I say. "Anyway, I really should get back. There's no-one else available to mind the store, so I've had to close it."

I smile, knowing exactly what she's thinking. Ah, well.

"I'm so glad you came by! It's always awesome to hang out with you." Kind of surreal, too, when you consider what our girl bonding sessions used to be like, a couple hundred years ago.

"We'll have to make it longer next time - an evening out or something?" I say, half question, half statement as I stand up and grab my coat. Maybe I will pop by on Thanksgiving, it's been nice, see her again.

I stand up as well, nodding to Jen to come and bus the table. "That would be terrific! If you do decide to come by on Turkey Day, we'll be eating at noon."
