You are not a bad parent.

She apologized for throwing the tantrum. Without being prompted by you. Let's face it, all kids throw tantrums. It is part of testing their boundaries. She is learning to express her feelings (I have a right to be upset-which is true) but needs to learn how to express that upset.

You handled it well-explained to her that she has that right and can talk to you about it but that it is not okay to act like that.

All in all, I think you handled that perfectly.

This. Twice. :-) The fact that your TODDLER apologized WITHOUT PROMPTING for having a tantrum is proof of your good parenting. Many adults don't apologize for their tantrums, but she understood an apology was necessary.

Your willingness to talk frankly with her and honor her feelings is going to help her a lot when she gets older and begins to run smack into the reality that not everyone is as reasonable and conscientious as she is.
