In the mid-’90s, Magda was studying fine arts and graphic design at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in upstate New York. She said she “started fooling around on crappy turntables” around 1994 - the same year she graduated from Grosse Pointe University-Liggett School - after she attended Hawtin’s famed Spastik Party at Detroit’s Packard Plant.
I remember, as a young child, going with my mother there for reasons I have lost to time. It was the one and only time I entered those halls. The young students were horsing around loudly in one of the main hallways. Out of nowhere, a kid with a hockey stick drops an indoor puck and launches a slap shot. The puck zoomed down the hall, missing my mother's skull by centimeters.
