Oh Man Vocaloids

Sep 17, 2011 01:33

UHM THIS IS FOR MEGHAN REALLY BUT UHM. I guess if anyone else wants a fast and loose primer to Vocaloids then here you go?

And it seems all my Vocaloid icons were in the ones that expired sooooo. Accept a non-related icon.

It's woefully incomplete but if I was doing this for real I would actually do a good job and include them all and stuff )

Ooh, so many links. This is incredibly helpful.

Aw, I'm disappointed to hear that Gakupo doesn't get used a lot; I love The Madness of Duke Venomania. I can't wait to check out the other 2 (and a half?) that you linked to. Gumi, Rin & Len are completely new to me, so those'll be fun to check out. Anyway, thanks so much for taking the time to do this. ♥ I really appreciate it.

It's not as thorough as I'd like but I thought it'd be helpful at least.

Yeah it's odd! I suppose it depends on how easy his voice is to use. The programs look impossibly difficult to me in general. But you're welcome! I really like rec'ing Vocaloid stuff so it wasn't a problem.

Oh! Are you familiar with the Dark Woods series? That's another one I like. I do tend to like sort of the crazier Vocaloid songs I think.

It definitely is!

Yeah, it seems to me like they'd all be tough to use, but I guess some might be more difficult than others. The Vocaloid Wiki also says he was the most expensive Vocaloid 2 release, so that may have something to do with it.

Oh, no, I'm not familiar with that. *searches youtube* Is it this one?

Yes! It is. It's a series, though, which the first song in it is. So. d;flgk /youtube-fu

Steel Cage Princess
Wide Knowledge of the Late, Madness
Then Dark Woods Circus as you found
Blue Ice Castle
Red Swamp Bottom
Guard and Scythe

Andddd that's a rough order since no one agrees on the order or what songs specifically go into the series in the first place. Either way, it tells a pretty neat and...horrible story.

As a bonus, I'm very fond of the Dark Woods Circus Chorus version so yes.

You should give some of the 40mP ones I linked a try if you haven't. They're a bit...folk-rock-ish? So soothing.

Sure! I am in a folk rock mood, and Gumi's too sweeeeeeet.

So this is pretty useful, and maybe your friend already knows this but...what ARE they? I know it's some sorta singing AI but...that's about it.

Yeah I should have included that, haha. But basically Vocaloids are a music creation program. It comes with everything you'd need to make a song but obviously it's a pretty complex program. You can mess with the music and the voices and in theory write a song from it though I'm constantly amazed that people can be so good at it ( ... )

That actually helps a lot. I have seen them so much at cons and I sorta knew what they were, but wasn't sure where to jump in to find out more, basic stuff.

So thank you! This was an awesome crash corse!

Same! I always used to see art and pictures of Vocaloids and sort of got interested that way. So you're welcome. ♥ And this rec list is pretty incomplete and biased - I didn't touch on Miku and Luka, who are really popular - so if you need more help, I'm happy to toss in more. Some of it can be an acquired taste depending on your autotune tolerance but there's a lot of people who can make them sound perfectly human.

(Sort of a random example but Miku can get a lot of flack on the 'mechanical voice' thing but Glow gave her vocals a breathy sound that's pretty impressive.)

And I'll stop rambling now ds;lgk

Besides Gakupo, I swear the most neglected male vocaloid would be Kaito. I love his design but I swear there's really nothing else going for him :(

GUMI MY LOVE FOR YOU IS PRACTICALLY ENDLESS <3

Ugh yes. I had a really hard time finding songs of Kaito's where his voice is actually used well. I mean I know he's a rather old program but :\ Poor guy. I do really like When I Get Home My Wife Always Pretends to be Dead a lot even if it's not great on the vocals just because the song is so utterly adorable. I think his Append is coming out soonish? So maybe he'll get used more/better. I also thiiiink he's on the list of Vocaloids that will get a Vocaloid 3 upgrade.

I KNOWWWWWW GUMI ♥ It's okay Gumi I love you even if SeeU is getting all the attention now.

Kaito, your wife is sure a special case. xD

Gumi>SeeU>The main vocaloids>Utauloids> (tbh they deserve their own rankings since there is WAY too many to count)> all the minor-ish vocaloids
