I've read 54 of these, but I think a few on the list are overrated. For example, I must be one of the few people on earth who doesn't think any of the Harry Potters is great literature. And although I love Bill Bryson I don't think any of his works belong on the same list as Bleak House. :)

I don't read much these days but emails. Most of the things I checked on this list I'd read by the time I was 19. Reading for pleasure is something of a lost art to me now.

Harry potter is a great work of imagination, but literature... hmmm no.I know what you mean about reading for pleasure, I always feel really guilty and start thinking about the work or study reading that I need to do!

Not me! I have a James Joyce reader that includes some of Ulysses, bought in 1993 and never read it!

I could never get through Ulysses, although I gave it several tries. Not enjoyable.
