The fact that members of your family have been getting sick too makes me wonder...if they had touched sushi that had been contaminated and let Rhea lick their hands she could have gotten it that way. Or she should have picked it up from the bathroom. Of course, it's still plausible that she had it first and passed it around.
I really do sympathize with your apprehension about the vet. You might have to make suggestions to them if they seem too willing to drop it.
