i have a minor in Business Administration and i'll be the first to tell you that the entire concept of 'Management courses' is 100% bullshit. The bottom line in good management is about common sense - treat people with respect. You don't need classes to figure that out, and if you can't figure that out, you'll always be an asshole for a manager.
Yep. Basically what we learned was how to "delegate." Next week we learn "communication." Shouldn't I know how to talk to someone before I learn how to give them orders? LOL.
The classes are a requirement if I want any job in the store above a specialist, so here I am. I think that, more than anything, it's just a giant booster shot of Lowe's propaganda. But something that they are doing is right.. I mean, shit, they've made enough money to have their own racetrack and everything! :D
Lowe's has a great reputation so you're right - somebody there has a clue. I suppose there are people, assembly line types, that simply haven't figured out that they can think for themselves. A few classes might wake them up. I always look back at my upper division management classes and laugh at all these fancy names - delegation, communication, etc.
Way to go Claudia. I need to visit Lowes more often and just go looking around for you while pretending to want to buy something (I just hope they don't decide to lose me for any lost potential sales the moment I walk out of the door without buying anything and no I'm not shoplifting so there, or would it be their or even there? Gah).
Lots of people come in and just look around. Especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Those are always the customers I like best, as they never ask me, "Where do you keep your tools?" (while standing under the Tool World sign) or, "Hey! Load up 14 50# bags of concrete and this set of patio furniture into the backseat of my car that can't possibly hold 14 bags of concrete and patio furniture safely."
