movie suggestions?

Sep 05, 2008 10:31

scored some free movie vouchers at work yesterday for general awesomeness.

having not been to the movies in a very long time (though i did see the dark knight), i'm at a complete loss as to what's showing at the moment.

can anyone recommend something cool? i've already seen In Bruges and Harold and Kumar Go to Guantanamo Bay ;)

Tropic Thunder was kind of fun.

really? cos it looks potentially terrible.
you're the third person to tell me it was ok though.

It wasn't awful at all, the people I went with gave it two thumbs up. I'm very picky with my movies so I'll just say there were laugh out loud bits and it was fun.

For a general movie audience it's still a good comedy, apparently though it's funnier if you're part of "the industry" - but that's a given considering it's a Stiller film, Ben just wants to be so accepted by his peers that he forgets who the movies are meant to be for.

Pineapple Express wasn't bad. It's all kinda downhill after Dark Knight.

hmm yeah we appear to be in a general movie slump.

how does it compare to Superbad?

Not as good as Superbad in my opinion.

If you like being bored, you can go and see that new Keira Knightley movie.

There are also plenty of other celluloid abominations, for example:

Make It Happen - from the people who thought people might want to see Flashdance again.

Mamma Mia Sing-A-Long - for people who didn't think Mamma Mia was annoying enough.

Space Chimps - for people who hate animation.

Wild Child - for people who... I don't even know what this movie is about.

The Mummy: Now With Asians - for people who think Brendan Fraser still has a career.

House Bunny - for people who watch Girls Of Playboy Mansion for the plot.

I do still like the first Mummy movie, they Jake Lloyded the second one and added a shitty cgi Rock-spider at the end (I know he was meant to be part scorpion, but rock-spider is a funny term), I think maybe this third one will be okay, hopefully a smack back to the first one and they seem to have Shia LeBeaufed this one cos the kid is older now.

well this one has michelle yeo in it, so it can't be all bad i guess.

i think the key with the mummy films is just to not take them too seriously. ;)

i still haven't seen the first hellboy!

but i'm told we already have excellent quality versions of them (or my flatmate does) so we'll probably watch them on his LCD tv :)
