I am happy to report that there ARE some interesting Australian bands out there. I may make it back to the ol' pub for some live music yet!

First cabs off the rank are Le Kingste and The Red Tree. http://greataustralianmusicsearch.blogspot.com/

hrm.. a thought that i had when you first wrote about this was that i think something that has changed over the past decade or so in australian music is how the line between being a 'local' band, and someone that gets regular radio play, major supports, tours, etc.. has blurred.

and i think le kingste are a great example of this.. and, i'd include paris wells in on this as well. i would struggle to call them 'local' acts simply for the amount of national (and os??) touring, and radio play that they've done/had. it's kind of a point of, where do you draw the line?

i'm actually searching for good 'Australian' bands; not necessarily the little local folk band in the pub down the road, and i'm also not discounting someone like Jet (note: I do not actually like Jet, nor have any urge to include them in my search ( ... )

ahhh.. i was thinking that you were trying to find unsigned/small-medium acts (for want of better adjectives).. and was wondering how you were going to define it.

and completely agree with the rest of what you've said!

Hey, I'm listening to Lisa Mitchell's latest album, and I think it's pretty good.

I'm currently working on an Aussie mix for some US friends, so can you suggest any really STELLAR individual tracks?

so.. now that i have a more accurate understanding of what you're undertaking.. is still suggest cotton.. and i will gladly send you a copy of their (as yet unreleased) album. likewise with heartbreak club.. though, their music is VERY generic ultra-pop.. though it's intended to be. so.. yeah. and finally, i'd previously forgotten to mention the seabellies.

the true live and paris wells calls still stand!
