I received a wedding invitation in the mail today, from one of my 4th grade teaching colleagues. She taught next door to me for the past 3 years, and is getting married next month?!?! I have no idea where this came from. She had not mentioned anything about even thinking about getting engaged, etc. I know her boyfriend had moved in with her

And the gift certificates thing? VERY poor taste. A wedding invitation is not a gift solicitation.

Any reference to gifts by the bride or groom in a wedding unless directly asked is in bad taste (at least in my opinion).

I concur on the tackiness of the gift certificates thing. If you go, give them something ugly, personalized, and non-returnable.

Anything about gifts/registries should be through word of mouth or some suggest through bridal shower invitations, but NOT the actual wedding invitation. Alyssa & I know what we're talking about. We've become wedding experts with all our researching :)
