I hate the ending of crisis core so goddamn much. I am going to write an essay on it one of these days. I probably already have, in like, bits and pieces, and it's just a matter of sitting down and laying all my thoughts out because it so fucking bullshit good christ.I love Zack's death in the original game. There are a handful of people in that universe - and especially within Shinra - who are just straight-up pretty okay, and Zack was one of them. Morally grey still, yes - though that got cut from CC - but that helped him fit in while still coming off as a good guy in the 5 minutes we know him

Yes this is what I liked about Zack's original death too. No Turks wanting to bring him back alive (man the compilation has really done a number on the Turks), no honour and dreams speil, just a quick, pathetic death.
I still think I got more out of the Zack we see for 5 minutes in the original game than in Crisis Core. It's the honour/dreams stuff, it just feels wrong.
BUT YOU LIKED GENESIS RIGHT? EVERYONE LIKED GENESIS I HEAR.
I totally agree. They established a more believable and sympathetic character in 5 minutes than they did in the whole game. How am I supposed to sympathize with Zack in CC? He's just... fucking stupid. He is criminally fucking stupid. He is blabbing about honour and dreams all the time.
Crisis Core is dumber than KH. I don't know what the writers were doing. Why didn't anyone give them a memo that being in SOLDIER isn't a good or honourable thing? Sephiroth is the archetypical SOLDIER, look how well that turned out for him. And, pro-tip? It wasn't the wing thing that had him upset about being a monster. Talk about taking the punch out of the whole genetic modification horror sequence.
And don't even get me started on what they did to Aeris.

That "afraid of the sky" line is one of the biggest wtf's of the game, Crisis Core Aeris would probably have a heart attack leaving Midgar.
