Eminent Domain Imminent

[Note to our International Colleagues: This is an issue that concerns voters in the USA first and foremost. However, the handing of such vast domestic powers to conglomerate corporations surely concerns the international community. Energy corporations are the chief motivators of war in most global hot spots today.]

Eminent Domain, commentary. )

I saw a Sixty Minutes segment about this a few years back. Quite terrifying, I expect, since you used to have some sort of constitutional protection of private property, didn't you? I'll be watching how this unfolds with interest. I'm surprised the Daily Show hasn't touched on it...

But, Canada's never had the protections the US has enjoyed for private property. In my own town, about 50 years ago, the gov't decided to raze one of the lower income, working class neighborhoods, because it was an "eyesore". Dunno what they thought they were going to do with land, but whatever the project was, it fell through. The land stayed vacant for just about freaking forever - they're only now starting to do something about it. Hundreds of people forced to pack up and move, with barely adequate compensation.

Bit embarrassing, eh?

It wasn't just my town, either. Here's what they did back in '67 in Halifax:

Thanks for the information and I'll be sure to pass it along. So many people I know, Republicans and Democrats alike, are so ticked off about this recent immigration "reform" that this has gone by the wayside. :-/ I'd not heard of this Energy Policy thing at all, to be honest.

Thanks again!
