In which I'm reminded that popular doesn't mean good.

So... after hearing lots of good things about the Dresden Files, I managed to get my hands on a copy of the first book a while ago.  I was... rather disappointed, actually.  I really like the concept, and there were bits and pieces that struck me as interesting or funny, but overall, it was nowhere near as awesome as people made it sound.

Rambling about books and TV series... ***may be some minor spoilers*** )

Murphy does get much better, to the point of [THIS IS SPOILERS, BUT SOMEHOW I DOUBT YOU'LL MIND XD] getting demoted and eventually getting kicked off the force because she chose to help Harry, knowing full well what the consequences would be.

On the other hand, there is more sex, and while I don't remember the F-bombs, they don't bother me much. *shrugs* So, if after two you're still not interested, I wouldn't bother with more. But I still love 'em. ^_^

It's good to know Murphy gets better. I think her tendency to turn on Harry at the drop of a hat is what annoyed me the most. :)

Haha, I got the first book of the Dresden Files and have been meaning to read it...but now I may put it off even more. :P The person who was all "omg Simon R. Green suuxxx" is in love with Dresden Files. Curious!

Well, it's a quick read, so when you do get around to it, it won't take you long. And since I'm waiting at least 30 weeks on ALL the books I want from PaperbackSwap, I'm not in any rush to list the second book, so you'd be welcome to snag it if you wanted to continue. :)

Maybe the whole thing with Murphy won't annoy you as much as it did me. After all, there was that random few pages with the Empress in the second Deathstalker book that irritated the heck out of me for some reason. But the Dresden Files books I read never had a "what the... no way!" moment like the big reveal at the end of Deathstalker book one. And there was only one part in Dresden Files that got an audible laugh out of me, while there were several in the Deathstalker books.

So I guess the big crazy chaotic space opera wins over the paranormal detective and urban fantasy mash-up. XD

Sad... I really wanted to like the Dresden Files.
