i don't mind talking to the hairdresser, but usually i get this chinese guy who doesn't speak much english and spends the entire time harping on the fact that i should improve my cantonese, learn mandarin, worship chairman mao, etc etc

the awkward part for me is having to explain how i want my hair cut in broken cantonese (because i always go to the same chinese place). thankfully, once they realize i can't speak cantonese that well, they don't bother talking to me.
