[For Teyla and Rodney]

Dec 16, 2008 07:10

As much as Carson really wished that they didn't have to do this, it was unavoidable. Double and triple checking things from both ends had seen he and Rodney come up with the same result when they translated and interpreted the data from the wraith device ( Read more... )

Rodney didn't want to tell Teyla. Ignorance was supposed to be bliss, right? But, God, he owed it to her - she'd probably saved his life half a dozen times, at least, and if he was in her position...

He couldn't even make that comparison. He was nowhere near her position, and he wouldn't want to be. That said, he'd be...there...in her general proximity, anyway. Both he and Carson would. To be shoulders to cry on, or punch, or whatever.

It was the fact she couldn't do anything about it that didn't sit right with Rodney. None of them could do anything about it. He'd always been a firm believer in the idiom knowledge is power and in this case...well...it wasn't.

Nevertheless. He and Carson were going to tell Teyla.

For once, Rodney McKay was silent, head bowed against the cold and the oncoming confrontation.

Teyla found her days becoming more predictable since she had become pregnant. As she could no longer train with the ITF and was not working on the building crew, much of her time in the compound was spent in the Psychology Office. With the onset of winter, it was even more of her time, as New Atlantis was no longer quite so comfortable a place to relax.

That day she had put aside her work, reading instead a book on earth childcare she had been recommended. Evel was curled near her feet, his back paws moving frantically as he slept and no doubt dreamed.

It was not uncommon that any of her friends came to find her here, but rare for them to come together. Having both Carson and Rodney appear at the door worried her, especially as Rodney would not seem to meet her eyes. The book put aside as she stood, frowning. "Carson, Rodney. Would you care to come in?"

"If you've got a moment," Carson said, rubbing his hands together, to try and warm them a bit, from the cold.

Teyla could usually pick up on things that Carson thought he'd be able to hide, and it just occurred to him that both he and Rodney showing up together and out of the blue had more than likelyy caused her to think that something odd was going on.

"It's gonna take more than a moment," Rodney muttered, mostly to himself as he edged his way inside.

He had his tablet tucked underneath his arm, but he didn't want to get it out just yet. That had to be a first.

He looked up, stared at Teyla for a moment, then looked over at Carson expectantly.

What, like he was going to start? Carson was the one with training in the bedside manner thing. It was only logical he should break the news first. Or so Rodney would claim.
