CREW RANKS & SHIP JOBS
Within the ship's hierarchy, there are several departments: Command (CMD), Operations (OPR), Sciences (SCI) and Security (SEC). If your character earns a place within one of them, or if they are assigned to a particular apartment, the acronym for that department will appear on their arm along with their designated number. All positions that are not listed here are regarded as NEP or Non-Essential Personnel. All crew positions are as follows:COMMAND CREW - CMD
◆ CAPTAIN - Primary command. Everyone answers to the captain; no exceptions. He or she makes the executive decisions regarding shipwide persons (both crew and passengers), military operations, and inter-ship interactions.

◆ COMMANDER - "Commander" is mostly an unofficial title for the second-in-command of the ship. The commander takes over for the captain if, for some reason, he becomes unable to perform his duties. Although this role usually goes to a bridge resident rather than a medical or engineering officer, Resnik is the commander of the Tranquility simply by virtue of seniority.

◆ PILOT - Drives the ship. "Drives" is a slightly misleading word, especially with a ship of the Tranquility's size; the primary objective here is to plot coordinates, paths, and chart routes; each must be 100% accurate. The pilot must have a vast knowledge of physics, mathematics, astronomy, and the "maps" of the known universe.

OPERATIONS - OPR
◆ COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER(S) - The communications officer is in charge of sending and receiving all messages, whether inter or intra-ship. They observe and maintain the ship's network, monitors activity, and relays comms to specific officers; they also report whether signals have been lost or muddled, and essentially make sure that all relevant lines of communication are open and functioning properly.

◆ FLIGHT OFFICER - A flight officer is in charge of all onboard craft, small craft, launch of the craft, and coordination of the craft. Flight, recovery, and tactics of the ship's shuttles is the Flight Officer's main concern.

◆ GUNNERY CREW - This crew takes care of both offensive and defensive fire control when under enemy attack. This includes coordination of the turrets and raising the shields when necessary, or orchestrating stealth attacks. Each member should have thorough understanding of fire mechanics, each type of titan-class heavy weaponry, and a solid grasp of tactics and strategy under duress.

◆ ENGINEERING CREW - Responsible for monitoring the wellbeing of the ship. Their jobs include: ensuring everything is primed and ready when preparing for a jump, fuel usage, checking all systems when the ship is on alert or using battle stations, the environmental systems of the ship (ventilation, electricity, heat, water, gravity, electronics, etc.), looking after the status of the ship's systems, the health and status of the power plant, plant fuel, and power distribution grid. Failure to properly monitor these systems or failure of the systems themselves will result in chip and passenger death within hours.

◆ YEOMEN - A member of any of these departments who holds more administrative power than usual, but who still answers to the head(s) of their respective department(s).

◆ SUPPORT STAFF - The Jack-of-All-Trades people within the OPR departments. They're the widely experienced helping hands that handle the excess jobs, or department overspill.

SCIENCES - SCI
◆ MEDICAL STAFF - In charge of looking after the safety and well-being of all on-board members. In addition to the automated medbay, there is a CMO, or Chief Medical Officer, several subordinate doctors, a ship's psychologist, and a few surgeons.

◆ AGRICULTURE - This department is responsible for the cultivation of the oxygen gardens, growth and nourishment of produce, the food provided and grown on the ship, and study of xenobotany. The death of the oxygen garden results in the death of all oxygen-dependent life forms onboard.

◆ XENOBIOLOGY AND GENETICS - The xenobiology and genetics staff examines any and all alien life present on the pre-terraformed planets, oversees the terraforming process, and analyzes and stores the genetic components of all onboard organics.

◆ PHYSICAL SCIENCES - Catchall department for those scientists whose disciplines are not covered by the previous branches. The Tranquility's main physical sciences staff consisted mostly of astrophysicists, but consultants from all branches of the sciences were represented.

SECURITY - SEC
The Tranquility's security systems are military-grade, and Security officers are responsible for defending the ship from both external and internal threats. Security's main duty, however, is enforcing the ship's rules and regulations-by whatever means necessary. Security is also in charge of conducting criminal investigations, should one be required.
