Road to the Oscars

Feb 02, 2009 15:39

Because I love movies so much I decided to watch all the Oscar nominations this year. I have one more Best Picture to go (Frost/Nixon) and a few for the smaller categories here and there. I wish I was a writer, so these all pretty much go "I thought..."

This movie was breathtakingly beautiful to look at. It also had me in tears. I pick this film for best cinematography. Brad Pitt is always in beautiful movies - The Assassination of Jesse James was beautiful too. His performance was great, but I still think Mickey Rourke was better. Cate Blanchett was stunning as a dancer. I thought their relationship was heartbreaking. I'm also so glad that they somehow stayed together and his life ended in her arms. Brad Pitt was gorgeous on that bike.

Interesting and not what I was expecting. Do I think Philip Seymour Hoffman did anything wrong? Yeah, I think Meryl Streep's character got it right. I like Amy Admas to win best supporting actress. Viola Davis was great too, but had such a short time on screen. But her presence was so strong. So if she wins I'd be happy too. The entire movie made me feel cold. All they had was those shawls in that wind. I really felt as though I was there.

Blew me away. I did not see the ending coming at all. I knew he'd be assassinated, but I did not expect it to happen that way. I loved Harvey and the imperfect relationship between him and Scott. And that one of the first scenes was Harvey picking him up in the subway...shocking and exciting. Emile Hirsch was adorable. I wish he was straight. Ah well, I also wanted him to end up with Lucas Grabeel's character. Diego Luna's character Jack was so annoying but well acted. And tragic.

I cried a billion times throughout this movie.

This movie was so much fun! My favorite character by far was Mittens the cat. And the pigeons. It was hilarious how the New York and LA pigeons were so different.

Watching later:

Man on Wire
Frost/Nixon

And if I can find them:
Vicky Christina Barcelona
Happy Go Lucky
The Reader
Revolutionary Road
Rachel Getting Married
The Changeling
The Visitor

This is all who I want to win, not who I think will win. I don't know who will win. It's so close this year. And I can honestly say any of these people deserve to win and I won't be upset.
