So, which is worse?
  1. Sending an email to facilitate a friend / business associate / political back-scratcher's obtainment of government support, otherwise via the usual channels, and receiving support from said friend / associate to the tune of (a) a borrowed ute and (b) < $1000 worth of fundraiser tickets.

I'm hoping for at least one more juicy twist. The Paul Lindwall angle seems like it might bear fruit.

Here's a fun possibility: if Grech is a crook or a conspirator, the WHOLE thing could be fraudulent.

- Grech is the one told Ford Credit this was a 'special customer'
- Grech is the one who received the fake email (which went to the Telegraph somehow)
- Grech is the one who forwarded documentation on the case to the Treasurer's personal number

The entire case against Rudd and Swan would then be a setup. Hard to see a motive, though.

The people of Australia demand better quality political scandals. Not Iguanagate, travel rorts, Keating’s pig farm or Howard’s big brother Stan. I don’t want to hear about ”Utegate” unless it involves Kevin Rudd rogering Kate Ellis in the back of a Holden Sandman after a pint of JD and six lines of coke. Now go away and try harder.

It is rather ... provincial or something. But wonderfully so! I'm sure the financial extent of the Grant / Rudd / Swan nexus behind the scenes well exceeds $2-3k, but I confidently estimate the amount brought under the light of the media so far is far less than the dollar figure of tax evaded by the average Australian small businessman per annum.
