Self-analysis is not a useful tool for mitigating egoism.

I suspect it is one of those Dunning-Krueger effect things -- it might be a useful tool for those who already are aware of their own issues with egoism, but pointless for those who already have such issues with egoism that they cannot recognise it as a flaw.

Not to me - I just happened to be thinking that I don't know anyone who indulges in extensive self-analysis who isn't also very self-centred. That includes people who recognise they're self-centred or self-obsessed.

People who look to solve every problem by looking first to "fix" something about themselves. Or always see things from the perspective of self.

This post would perhaps be better phrased as "No amount of self-analysis can cure self-obsession."

Ah, but I engage in frequent self-analysis, and I, *I* am not egoistic or self-obsessed *at all*, not like I used to back back when (10,000 words of narrative deleted) during those 20 years, 9 months, 2 weeks, 3 days, 4 hrs, 15 minutes and 25 .237 seconds, when I, for clearly and obviously very good and sufficient reasons, found my myriad fascinating wonderments to be (most often) my favorite (and most valuable!) subjects for musement.

Is it even possible to mitigate egoism?
