So, I decided to copy a few of my friends' ideas and basically share what I did this year. Ha. It's been an interesting 365 days that included switching schools and moving to New York from Ohio. (And I love it, for the most part, by the way.)
I realized that I need to really work on my writing and try and catch up on my reading as well. (I have an entire list of books on my nightstand.) School was good. Though only one professor hasn't posted my grade, I managed a 3.77 so far and got an A- in Spanish, which I am soooo thrilled about.
As a person, I have the feeling that I haven't grown but actually slid back into the shell I used to wear two years ago, before I was comfortable in my own skin. Moving was difficult in itself and finding REAL friends proved to be the same. I noticed things about people that I somehow overlooked before until they were brought to my attention by others around me, and I must admit that I'm rather disappointed in my "close" friends and my own judgement.
Just a few days ago, my best friend and my brother visited me, and we spent a day in the city. We saw everything there is to see in NYC, and my feet hated me for it. Ah well. It was worth it. (And the two days afterward, all three of us could NOT get the soundtrack of "The Phantom of the Opera" out of our heads... haha.)
Fanfiction --- I must say that my writing has improved over the past year, thanks to my wonderful beta, Merlin Missy. With her help, I managed to make my work sound somewhat intelligent. ;) (All my stories are listed at Fanfiction.net and Jlaunlimited.com) Though most of my JLU fics were based on one of my favorite characters (Hawkgirl/Shayera), my sick and twisted mind decided to mess with her a bit more. Not only did I nearly kill her in the Biblical influenced "Triple Six," but I paired the redhead with Bruce Wayne in my conspiracy theory BM/HG series ("Parallelism," "Mimicked," "Mirror Image," and "Paralyzed Reflection"). I'm not sure if I created this unlikely pairing, but many of my friends have given me credit for it. *grins devilishly* I also had a friendship ficlet ("Dealing with Past's Pain") with that same pair.
I managed to touch on the *other* relationships GL and HG are involved in. ("Scrapes," "Jealous Much?" and "Isn't it Ironic") {And I'd like to mention that I called the fact that Shayera would wear a dress SOMETIME in the JLU series.} Rex Stewart made his debut in my fanfiction in "Futures," focusing on his relationships with both his parents. "A Simple Kind of Life" followed Shayera on her vacation, while "Crazy" followed a (you guessed it) unstable Shayera Hol. I updated "Funerals" a year after I wrote the first part and noted how much my writing has improved since then. "A Little Chat" as an RPG piece Crhblack and I worked on a LONG while ago; we managed to turn it into a story and were both pleased with the outcome. Of course, I have the two drabble lists I wrote for pure amusement.
Because I was challenged to do so, I took a break from writing Shayera based fiction. In "That Old Black Magic," I wrote a Zatanna piece where she is forced to work with Selina Kyle. "Kind of Strange" was a fun fluffy piece I did on Huntress and The Question. "I'd Kill 4 a Redhead" happened to be the darkest story of the year; I set it in the Bat-verse and told it from Barbara Gordon's POV, rarely mentioning her mentor.
Finally, I recently added "Frosted Windowpanes" (the fic placed in the "R-verse") and "Baby, It's Cold Outside" as my holiday ficlets. :)
Wow. I'm tired just thinking about it all. I hope I didn't bore you.
Guilty pleasure fic: "Kind of Strange"
Favorite fic: "Parallelism"
Fic I am most proud of: "I'd Kill 4 a Redhead"
Most daring fic: "I'd Kill 4 a Redhead"
I had the most fun writing fic: "A Simple Kind of Life"
Happy Holidays all. I hope you're having a grand old time.
