Crying like a broken thing. Dear god, but this is heartbreaking. Staggeringly, beautifully painful; the sense of distance, of loss and grief, is just overwhelming, and the effect is vividly coloured by poor Charles' somewhat dreamy, reminiscing voice. You also hit one of my most potent buttons for grief-fic, that of 'so close but can't reach', and it cuts me up with excruciating effectiveness. I'm still sobbing, damn you thank you so much.
Probably not helping that I just listened to Queen 'Who Wants to Live Forever'...

Fantastic. Very touching, and somehow hopeful towards the end.

Yes, I am crying, weeping, sobbing.
Oh, what have I gotten myself into with this fandom? With this pairing?
This was so beautiful, my heart cannot take it. This is perhaps the first fic I've read that's in first person from Charles' POV. I think it being from Charles' POV is what makes this so beautifully sad. Your write so brilliantly; it's Charles, it really is. Oh Charles! God I am so emotionally invested in him and in him and Erik and I really really need some fluff right NOW because their broken love is so painful and I think I'll be turning to this fic whenever I need a good cry from something so moving..I'll be in the corner, trying to compose myself..
