I've taken too many honors literature courses...

Today was the start of the new semester and, in a complete 180 from the last one, I had quite the extended break between my classes today. Six hours in fact (on Wednesdays the middle portion of this time will be occupied by a three hour lab). As for the authors, I vote for the 'rolling over in their graves' option.

Most authors aren't actually trying to couch hidden meanings within their words, they just want to tell a story. Of course, if we take their works at face value, many literature professors, critics and various and sundry other hangers-on would be without a job.
