Who: Chase and Old Lace and Uther
What: Hunting
When: Day after the Baron visits
Where: The woods

Technically, it was Arthur's crossbow, and technically, Uther had hunting equipment of his own, but all of it was hand-made by a king whose primary expertise did not lie in the fashioning of complicated mechanical devices, nor, indeed, in woodworking. And although Chase was an enthusiastic and able study, bowmanship was a lifetime's work, one Uther himself did not feel he had truly mastered, though he had had a deal more practice at it since taking up the quieter life. In this instance, Chase would have more important matters on which to focus, and Uther wanted for there to be few other demands on his attention to distract him.

Which is to say they had need of the crossbow. Still, Uther felt like a boy sneaking off with his brother's weapon as he gathered it up along with his own bow, some knives, quivers (one full of bolts, the other, arrows), and various other useful items in preparation for this training hunt. He left the gun Dennis Crane had gifted him in its locked case--not today.

It was well past dawn, indeed more like midday, the later time chosen to accommodate a raptor that required warmth. Uther returned to the house in search of a small meal and some provisions, and to see that all was well before he departed for the afternoon.
