Seeing as I shall be dashing off to China in the rather near future, I am making a list of things that I shall need to take with me. Please do add to it if you like, I'm sure I shall forget things

Things that leap out to me in terms of stuff I was grateful for and/or I found useful when I was there last summer: -- Sunscreen if you burn easily. Unless you have a pretty Chinese umbrella/plan to buy one there. -- Chocolate! Because it is expensive and hard to find, at least, where I was. -- Most of the stuff that's on your list already, 'cause books in English that you might actually want to read are hard to find, and tampons there are inadequate (WTF is up with that?). Also, deodorant that they have there is inadequate. -- Also....have you figured out your visa things? China is currently making it rather difficult to get a visa due to those pesky Olympics. I am sure I will think of other things later on to add to your list. I am...kind of jealous of your upcoming China adventure. I would sort of like to have a China adventure this summer.
I'm going to get my visa next month since it is only active for 3 months after you get it. I'm just going to go to the consulate in NYC and pick it up there. Nathan's done it a few times, so I assume he knows all the proper procedure and we shouldn't have too much of a problem.
I'm not looking forward to all the foreigners being in China while I'm there. They will be obnoxious. I hope they all leave as soon as the Olympics are over.
Also, I don't know why they have such issues with tampons. But it sucks and I have a feeling I will have to get my mother/friends to mail me them often. Sad.

hey, I saw your post on the Expatriates in China page. I don't really have an answer to your questions...but I'm also going to China (for the first time) and am really excited. Are you going to teach English? I'm going for an immersion program in Chinese (mine isn't very good now....but hopefully it'll get good)
