I like the plot but some how when I click on the pic.... the actor look cannot make me feel like want them to be my Alexander and Hephaistion....sad.. I still prefer Colin and Jared to be A/H....*sigh***
I like the plot too - a light mixture of humor, Gods, deals, eternal love and REINCARNATION! For me, A/H are more like their statues than any living people, so I don't mind the actors. Especially in a musical with all the singing/dancing going on. Anyway, it's good to see this doing well and Alexander portrayed in a light other than a despotic, self-involved conqueror.
when I read the headline I thought they would make a 'historical' musical out of it... I already saw the Macedonian troops tap-dancing on the battlefield, and Alexander and Hephaistion having a pas de deux at Achilles' tomb. Then the grand finale: Alexander's twenty-minute death aria, surrounded by the Companions-choir, then Hephaistion's spirit appears out of the mist of the fog machines and they sing a reprise of their great love duet from the second act... there is just one question: "Alexander the Great- baritone or tenor?" ...Gods save us!
don't know what is worse: a humourous or a serious musical version...
Your plot for a musical/opera/ballet mix sounds neat. Alexander is definitely a tenor in my mind - and I would add to your plot some lovely mixed-language duets with Roxana and of course, the Greek chorus present in almost every scene.
A pretentiously "historical" version would be unbearable, I think.Humor is always okay. This one, htough, does not seem to be pretending to be high-brow or historical in any sense; it appears to be good fun. It also seems to have done well so far and now it's on its way to NYC. If I ever get the chance I will see it.
oh my, I forgot about the Greek chorus... dickhead-me
yes, Alexander would be a tenor- Hephaistion should be a soft baritone. And if Bagoas takes part in our little play, I want Radu Marian to sing the role- think he fits castrati-esque ;) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3dRe8GwQkI)
agree, it would be awful- but that will not make them hesitate to do it nevertheless... I still believe that "Auschwitz- the musical" is to come. It's just a matter of time.
but I have to admit that I wish for an 18-hour opera-version
I agree - if someone were to write an edge-of-the-seat 16 hour Wagnerian "The Ring Cycle" version of Alexander's life, I would travel to another continent to see it. :D
That is wonderful! I am jealous, :) because I really want to go to this one but alas, NYC is just too far away. Please write a review after you've seen it and if possible, share the detailed story with us.
