Some
New Year's babble,
Last Year:
Successes:
- Making my room a friendly, inviting place for a very diverse group of people
- Gaining the respect of both liberals and conservatives, and being the first person in the YPU in a loooong time to get the endorsement of all six parties.
- Being there for Marie and Andrew
- Getting to take lessons from Mr. Killmer
Failures:
- Not paying any fucking attention in my classes
- Not being there for friends from home
- Finding out the extent to which stupid, petty political scheming can consume me
- Whining a lot
Important People (well, the ones that changed):
- Roger! As I said in the infamous room mate quiz (
here, for those of you who missed it): "Gay! Political! Does funny imitations of suitemates and German econ professors! What more could you want?"
- Becoming a real part of the Rob/Jade posse
- Adam and Ken, now permanent fixtures in our room. I can't remember why they started stopping by in the first place, but, being seniors with nothing better to do, they kinda stayed once they appeared.
- Maria. Yeah.
Important Moments/Epiphanies:
- Roger: "You're the best thing that's happened to me at Yale."
- Marie: "If only my suitemates understood that people express themselves differently when they're angry"
- Adam: "Well, no wonder girls keep hitting on you - you only touch women."
- Me: "Why are you supporting this amendment, Lea?"
Lea: "Well, mostly because you proposed it."
- And, my personal favorite at the moment, Lena: "Eric, you have a promising career ahead of you as a bottom in gay porn."
Things I Learned:
- Asking questions is the best way to be an interesting person.
- Under promise, over deliver
- Politics is at least 50% personal
- I'm definitely not gay.
- I like Kahlua. Yum.
This Year:
I Want To:
- Read. A lot more.
- Pay attention in my classes, and get the sort of grades that I know I can.
- Not whine.
- Practice oboe.
- Possibly acquire a boy.
- Get into EP&E.
- Exercise some will power.
which I'm posting while I'm in a sharing mood.
