I do not understand why people see the "well so and so who disagrees with me does X evil thing too" is a valid response to you pointing out one of their pet ranters/whatever is being manipulative, wrong, etc. It's like they think the X side versus Y side is more important than what you were talking about, one particular rant or ranter.
