Personally, I don't like buttons on the side at all. I prefer just left-click, right-click, and scroll. On one mouse I had I kept accidentally clicking the side buttons, and I don't remember what they did but I remember it would always fuck up whatever I was doing. So when I got the mouse I have now, which has side buttons, I set them both to "minimize window", so that if I ever accidentally click them it doesn't cause any damage. It's worked pretty well for me.

It's vital for you to understand that I play games with those buttons. Having two more keybinds immediately at hand is extremely helpful.
