I've read that were plans to expand it to people as old as 25 and families with incomes of $75k or more and that's why he vetoed it. Personally, I think we should all go back to using medicine men and shamans. :)
I'm skeptical. I think he vetoed it because it's not a high priority for him, or any kind of priority. It won't affect the well-being of anyone in his family, after all, as money is not an issue for them.
Besides, I'd far rather health care be provided for all Americans of any age than to continue occupying a country which is no threat to us. It's strange that education is federally funded but health care is not...after all, if you don't have your health, then education is not going to do you much good. With the current system, we have the insurance companies acting as middle men, taking their cut of the profit, causing health care prices to skyrocket, and making it less affordable for everyone. What kind of a society is as wealthy as we are and yet doesn't provide basic healthcare for all its citizens? A wacko one, if you ask me.
You got me on one of my rants...uhoh...;)
Yeah, shamans are probably cooler than doctors in most cases. If you throw acupuncture in and other forms of Eastern medicine, then I'm all for it...
Frankly, I don't think I trust the government enough to be in charge of something as important as healthcare. I definitely don't trust them in charge of something as important as education (don't tell Meg I said that :D). But really, any time they get involved with something it gets bungled up. None of them really give a rat's ass about people, and I mean both parties. I think they all suck, personally. They're all power-hungry and want our money to do whatever they want with. The people who aren't like that aren't the ones in control which really sucks. Bah, I hate politics. I hate the need for them. We the people are supposed to be in control and we're not.
I've never tried acupuncture but I'd sure like to give it a go for my neck and headaches... :)
are you ready for another rant?atheisticdryadOctober 15 2007, 02:02:02 UTC
It's not a question of the government controlling healthcare, just providing the funds so that all people, rich or poor, employed or unemployed, down and out or in or whatever, can get the care they need. The doctors, surgeons, medical technicians and all would still do their thing, whether the funds come from a health insurance company or a government service
