Second drama track from Weiss Kreuz Glühen, Dramatic Soundtrack II. This is one of my favorite scenes between Knight and Ran. ♥

Jazz Me Blues - BAR Moment

Setting: A bar.

Queen: I'll have my usual.

Bartender: Of course. And how about you, Sir?

Knight: I'll take a...hm. Gin with lime.

Bartender: Very well.

Knight: Do you come here often? Er...

Queen: Monet. A certain person brought me here once, and ever since then, I come every so often. It's my secret hideout.

Knight: Hmm...it certainly makes a fitting hideout. No one would think to pop inside a place like this, all hidden in the back roads.

Queen: Shh. He'll hear.

Knight: Well, any place would be rowdy on a night like today, so it might be kind of nice to drink quietly at a place like we had a private reservation.

*door opens*

Bartender: Welcome.

Queen: Didn't turn out to be a private reservation after all.

Knight: To think there were other well informed customers... Oh...Ran!!

Aya: Yuushi!

Rex: Queen!

--

Knight: Why do I have to hang around having drinks while looking at this guy's face, huh?

Aya: That's what I wanna say.

Knight: Wasn't this supposed to be your hideout?

Queen: It's ok, right? We rarely have a coincidence like this.

Rex: True. Could be a blessing from god.

Queen: Hmm.

Rex: What is it?

Queen: Rex, you're more romantic than you look.

Rex: What do you mean by that?

Queen: Just what I said.

Rex: Queen!

Bartender: Sorry for the wait. *sets down their drinks*

Queen: Thank you.

Bartender: Have you decided?

Rex: I'll have a diamond dust.

Aya: Martini, extra dry. Without the olive.

Bartender: Very well. *walks off*

Knight: Hmph. You're such a showoff.

Aya: What's wrong with ordering what I like?

Queen: But you should be careful. If you're too particular, some places might think you’re a snob1.

Knight: Snob?
[1 In English.]

Queen: It refers to a picky customer.

Knight: Hah! It fits perfectly.

Aya: It's not like you can talk.

Queen: If you don't mind, I'll start with my drink now.

Rex: Is that a Bloody Marie?

Queen: More accurately, it's Bloody Mary. It's popular belief that it was named after Marie Antoinette, who lost her head during the French Revolution, but it's actually based off of the image of Elizabeth Bartley. "Bloody" refers to the color of her blood.

Knight: Elizabeth? Who's that?

Rex: The wicked blood stained Countess, who killed young women and bathed in their blood in order to sustain her youth and beauty.

Queen: She must have believed that if she bathed in the pure blood of young women, she could have eternal youth.

Knight: I see. So that's why.

Queen: Why what?

Knight: I thought that to you, that's the substitute for a young woman's blood. So you can always be youthful.

Queen: Well then I'm sorry to say, this cocktail isn't a Bloody Mary at all, but actually a Marilyn Monroe.

Knight: Marilyn Monroe?

Queen: Yup. This elegant red cocktail was made imaging her.

Knight: *chuckles*

Queen: What?

Aya: *chuckles too*

Queen: What, Ran too?

Aya: Doesn't it just mean you want to hold on to her eternal beauty, Queen?

Queen: Hey!

*they all laugh*

Rex: You all seem quite friendly. Though the time you were together as Crashers was relatively short, wasn't it?

Knight: Yeah well...he was such a poor replacement for the injured Rook. We ended up kicking him out.

Aya: Stop making stuff up.

Queen: How long has it been since we parted ways? Two years?

Aya: No...it hasn't been two years yet.

Knight: Is that how it is? It feels like it's been pretty long.

Aya: ...been doing alright?

Knight: What's this? You're creeping me out.

Aya: Not you. Taiyou-chan.

Knight: Oh, my sister... Yeah, she's doing alright.

Aya: Is it ok?

Knight: What is?

Aya: To leave her all alone on a day like today.

Knight: I can't help it! I was called out all the sudden.

Aya: A mission?

Knight: ...something like that.

Queen: It's a date.

Knight: Queen!

Queen: It's nothing we need to hide. It's the same as you two.

Rex: Eh? No, that's not it! We had to discuss our mission...

Queen: Shh! You're too loud. ...anyway, you finished, didn't you?

Rex: What?

Queen: Your discussion.

Rex: ...yes.

Queen: See? It is a date, then.

Rex: Not really...we just wanted to get a drink..

Queen: You're blushing.

Rex: No I'm not.

Aya: Queen. That's enough teasing.

Queen: Hmm...so you protect her.

Knight: So you guys have a mission coming up, huh?

Aya: Sort of.

Knight: I see. ....hey....Ran.

Aya: Sorry, but no.

Knight: What? But I haven't said anything yet!

Aya: If...

Queen: If?

Aya: If you were going to ask me to come back to Crashers...

Knight: You idiot!! Why would I ask you something like that??

Queen: I was going to say it.

Knight: ...Queen?

Queen: Weiss is an unnecessary organization in this world.

Rex: Queen!

Queen: We're not gods. Isn't that true, Rex? Ran?

Aya: Yeah, that's true. We're not gods.

Rex: Aya...

Queen: So no matter how wicked a criminal is, we have no right to execute them on our own. Ultimately, it has to be entrusted to the courts. Don't you think? I think we should disband Weiss and put all efforts into Crashers.

Rex: Then I'll ask you this... what became of the Metal Venus case?

Knight: Hey...are you trying to take shots at our work? Ran was there then, too! Ask Ran! That mission was a success!

Rex: I know. What I want to ask is, what punishment was dealt upon the two perpetrators?

Knight: They got life in prison.

Rex: Yes. But even if it's "life" if they stay on good behavior, they can get out after about twenty years.

Knight: They're...not going to get good behavior!

Rex: But they will eventually triumph and come out free into society. That's reality.

Queen: That's possible. But you can also say that they've been ostrasized from all society.

Rex: But they're still alive. If they wanted to, they could spend time with their friends and family. But what about those victims whose lives were taken so unjustly? He can never see the son that he loved ever again. If you think about those tragic circumstances, do you think twenty years is fair?

Queen: And that's why it's ok to kill them? How self-important.

Rex: All I'm saying is, there are limits to the law. That's why...the late Takatori Shuuichi understood this discrepancy and took on the responsibilities of the second Persia, despite the fact that he was also the police commissioner. That's what I believe.

Queen: Then why did Crashers - an organization opposite of Weiss - have to be created? It was the second Persia - or King - who also founded Crashers. Takatori Shuuichi.

Rex: I think he was conflicted in his heart as well.

Queen: Yes, he certainly was. No matter how eloquently you describe it, he knew that Weiss was nothing more than the Takatori's private band of executioners.

Rex: That's saying too much!

Queen: No...Shuuichi-san was also very torn about this. He thought about changing the nature of Weiss, but even so, Ran's third generation Weiss was merely pulled down into the Takatori family's internal strife. What are you trying to get Ran and his team to do for the Takatori's this time?

Rex: The fourth Persia is not someone who's being manipulated to work on behalf of the Takatori family!

Queen: I wonder.

Rex: Queen! You must understand this too, don't you?

Queen: Can you really say that he has no personal vendetta?

Rex: Yes.

Queen: Don't you think it's going too far to send Weiss abroad just to take down the backing of Esset?

Knight: W-wait a second! Backing? Send abroad? What are you talking about?

Rex: Outsiders should keep out of this!

Knight: What??

Rex: Persia can't forgive those wicked people who cause others suffering. Whether that's a domestic or foreign matter is irrelevant! He truly wants to protect pure hearts from the evil of the black beast. I was moved by Persia's compassion.

Queen: Hmm...so that's what it is.

Rex: What is?

Queen: So you fell in love with him?

Rex: Huh?

Queen: You are the kind of woman who can be easily taken by a man who confides in you about his dreams.

Rex: Wh--what are you saying??

Queen: You don't have to worry about your age difference. A younger man can be quite a good thing. Right...Knight?

Knight: *chokes* What??

Rex: Queen! Even if you are my senpai, there are things you should and should not say.

Aya: Rex.

Rex: Eh? Oh...

Bartender: Apologies.

Rex: No...go right ahead.

Queen: We weren't fighting or anything.

Bartender: No worries. It's not as though there are other customers here. *sets down drinks* A martini and...a diamond dust.

Knight: Hmm...so that's a diamond dust. It's got two layers of colors - white like powder snow and a clear blue. It's pretty.

Bartender: They say this blue represents a star that soars across the pure frozen sky that envelops the world.

Rex: It tastes good.

Bartender: The gin in the martini is Tanqueray.

Aya: Thank you.

Bartender: Well then, enjoy.

Knight: Ran.

Aya: Hm?

Knight: You were being quiet while Rex was going off on her rant, but what do you think? A moment ago, you got ahead of me and I said I wasn't going to ask you, but...

Aya: Ah..

Knight: You really have no intention of coming back...to Crashers?

Aya: I'm sorry, Yuushi.

Knight: Why not? Didn't you get your revenge? You don't need the money anymore either, with the awakening of Sleeping Beauty. Isn't that true?

Rex: Just leave it alone, Knight.

Knight: Outsiders should keep out of this!

Rex: Wha--?

Knight: This is between me and Ran, who was the former Rook. Ran, answer me. Is this your atonement?

Aya: I...don't believe I'll get forgiveness from anybody.

Knight: Then why? Is it the team? Are you planning on committing suicide with your team? If that's it, then what was Pawn or Bishop to you? Even if the time we were together was short, we were all a team once, right? Haven't you ever considered Pawn's or Bishop's feelings?

Aya: I certainly do feel like I want to value my current team more than I have before. But it's not like I'm being dragged around by someone else's beliefs, and in some respects, it's got nothing to do with Persia either.

Rex: Aya?

Knight: Then why? Why do you still stain your hands in blood?

Aya: I wonder why.

Knight: Ran!

Aya: I can't really explain it...but it could be instinct.

Knight: Instinct? To kill people?

Aya: In this world, there will always be light and shadow. The shadows are born from light, but the light is also what can erase the shadow.

Knight: What are you talking about? Explain it so I can understand!

Aya: We humans are a race that toys with people's lives. If we create the shadows, then we are also the ones who have the power to destroy it. If the black beast exists, then it's necessary to have the white hunters to kill it.

Queen: I understand. So it's about mortal enemies.

Knight: Mortal enemies?

Queen: Ran, you're saying that you are Esset's mortal enemy, right?

Knight: Hah! Mortal enemies? Well isn't that great? And with that attitude of the "justified hero," how many people are you going to kill to destroy that shadow? Huh?? A hundred? A thousand? Tell me, Ran!! ....I just...don't want you to turn out like Shion and the others.

Rex: How do you know about that??

Queen: I told him...

Rex: Queen!

Knight: And what happened to them eventually? They couldn't forget the taste of killing people and they were just reduced to coldblooded killers, isn't that right!? Can you really say that you won't become like them?

Aya: Yeah. I won't become like Shion and the others.

Knight: Heh! Isn't that grand of you. Where do you get that kind of confidence?

Aya: It's because Yuushi...I have you.

Knight: Huh?

Aya: If you keep staining your hands with blood, then regardless of who you are, it will destroy your heart eventually. If that day ever comes for me...

Knight: Ran...

Aya: If it comes...then I want you to kill me.

Knight: You stupid idiot!!! I'm gonna kick your ass!!!

Rex/Queen: Knight! *they hold him back*

Knight: You want me to kill you? There's no way I could kill you!!

Queen: Fraternal friendship...it makes me a little jealous.

Knight: That's not it!! I'm Crashers. I'm a demolitionist, not a killer! If you wanna fight Esset so much, then go fight them and die for all I care!!

Rex: Wait..

Aya: I'm not going to die so easily! I'll pathetically struggle, and struggle some more and survive.

Knight: Yeah...and if you die, I'll never forgive you!

Aya: *chuckles* Which is it?

Knight: Don't get me wrong-- it's because if you died, then my sister...Taiyou will be sad. I don't wanna see her saddened face. That's all...

--

Bartender: *pops a cork* Aah...I'm sorry, did I surprise you? I thought I would bring you some champagne...

Knight: Champagne?

Bartender: Yes. *pours the champagne* Because the date has changed...this is just a little service, on the house.

Rex: Oh my...is it already that late?

Queen: Really! It's already midnight.

Knight: Wasn't there a movie where some character is surprised by the sound of a cork?

Queen: It's from The Apartment. The character jumps to the conclusion that the sound of a cork being popped was a gun going off for a suicide. She bangs on the door in tears, and when the door opens, the main character is standing there with a bubbling champagne bottle. It's a famous scene.

Bartender: *sets down their drinks*

Aya: Sorry for the trouble.

Bartender: Not at all.

Queen: Then if you don't mind, we'll gladly have some.

Bartender: The champagne is Piper-Heidsieck Brut. Yes. I set aside Shuuichi-sama's favorite champagne.

Queen: Did you...thank you.

Bartender: Well then... *walks off*

Knight: Queen. So when you mentioned earlier about the person who brought you here - you were talking about...King?

Queen: Come on, let's make a toast! Raise your glasses, Knight, Ran and Rex, too! Ready? To Crashers!

Rex: To Weiss!

Queen: Merry Christmas!

*glasses clink*
