We've got a lot of rebuilding to do. First, we're going to save lives and stabilize the situation. And then we're going to help these communities rebuild. The good news is -- and it's hard for some to see it now -- that out of this chaos is going to come a fantastic Gulf Coast, like it was before. Out of the rubbles of Trent Lott's house -- he's ( Read more... )

Hear what Barbara Bush had to say here. It is a lot worse to hear it than to just read it which is bad enough.

From Atrios:

NEW YORK Accompanying her husband, former President George H.W.Bush, on a tour of hurricane relief centers in Houston, Barbara Bush said today, referring to the poor who had lost everything back home and evacuated, "This is working very well for them."

...

In a segment at the top of the show on the surge of evacuees to the Texas city, Barbara Bush said: "Almost everyone I’ve talked to wants to move to Houston."

Then she added: "What I’m hearing is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed with the hospitality.

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this (she chuckled)--this is working very well for them."

I heart Al Franken. Yeah, I can just see her saying "Good Day Sir!" or whatever stupid obnoxious term she used.

Do you remember when she told Connie Chung that she thought someone (was it Hillary?) was a "bitch" ON CAMERA? I mean how fricken stupid do you have to be to think you can whisper something to a reporter on camera and it won't get out?

At least they're starting to realize it. Sigh.

It's all so fucking awful - but yeah, at least there won't be those embarassingly ugly homes from the 1950's messing up the scenery anymore. *insert eyeroll here*

yes, they're even annoying Republicans at this point. Chuck Hagel, NEWT GINGRICH and Mitt Romney, among others, are all criticizing the shrub at this point.

Even Trent Lott, that bastion of conservative bullcrap has said the he thinks the president's inaction after Katrina "was due to shock". Well at least he's admitting the president has done too little too late.

the other day, Friday, i think, i watched the First Lady as she addressed the local and national press from Cajundome, a mile down the road from here where there are approximately 8,000 refugees being housed, and i just wanted to sledgehammer the tele and her big toothy face.

i'd like to insert a phrase i picked up from my lovely wife: "fucking twats."

A yes, that phrase fits so perfectly when discussing Laura Bush or Lynn Cheney. sigh.

I am so glad I don't have cable anymore.
