the amanda palmer thing is totally understandable and yet amusing to me.

*purposefully does not use one of my old dresden dolls lj icons that i never use*

nothing quite like running into someone at a party wearing a tshirt with their ex's face on it! :-D

HA! Yes, exactly. It amuses me, too, but the amusement doesn't quite cancel out the weirdness. There's a reason I was really picky about what Who Killed Amanda Palmer? songs I offered. *g* There are actually additional wacky connections through other groups of friends, too, which just makes it even more strange. Like a spiderweb of oddity settling over me.

Though don't worry, pictures don't usually bother me, so icon away if you wish! :)

IKR? If other people want to do it, then more power to them, but I don't think I could bring myself to...

Ditto on the weirdness with the Dresden Dolls. And...the cover of A for Accident?!? I hadn't seen that before.

i think, i think i will not offer to write anything amanda palmer/dresden dolls related, because... it might just get too weird.

That is very sensible! I think I only offered two, and they were ones I was pretty sure I could reasonably divorce from any meta knowledge. I'm still waffling about requesting Delilah. On one hand, I want it, I really do. On the other... optional details are optional. I'm a litte afraid I'll end up with Amanda RPF... which I will admittedly read and appreciate, but it will probably still freak me out a little. Maybe I should go back to Diana Wynne Jones - A Tale of Time City from last year. Or even Initial D from last year, now that someone other than me is offering it. But I think A Tale of Time city is more likely... *ponders*

I've been meaning to watch Mysterious Skin for ages - you've sold me!

(Just a few hours to Bonnie and Clyde - I am stupidly excited even though it's you going, not me! Can't wait to hear all about it - you have to memorise details!)

I think it was(500) Days of Summer that finally pushed me over the edge into moving Mysterious Skin to the top of my netflix queue. Between that and Brick I kind of realized that clearly he can do so much more than just be adorable in 10 Things I Hate About You fashion (which is admittedly extremely adorable and worth a lot by itself). He is... much more Brick-like in Mysterious Skin than any of the other roles listed here, and that is part of the reason the film is so amazing.

Definitely set aside a chunk of time that will let you process afterwards, though. I needed it. I would definitely be interested in hearing your thoughts on it once you seen it!

(\o/ I did my best! Though I was so distracted by the pretty my detail-brain wasn't exactly on full power.)

I saw (500) Days of Summer recently - Joseph Gordon-Levitt was amazing in it, even though I struggled with the film because I was very underwhelmed by Zooey Deschanel. So I'm definitely getting the film, and I shall save it for a free day.

I must admit - I got LJ to notify me when you posted. I'm not a crazy stalker, honest, I just really, really wanted to read your review! And I'm thrilled you're so much better at reviewing than me - I suck at remembering details, or managing to articulate experiences.

Aww, thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the review. :)

I didn't mind Zooey Deschanel, but she didn't captivate me, either. I think I'm starting to rebel against the needlessly quirky vibe that a lot of indie films (and bands, and books, etc) are veering towards these days. I like quirky! But I'm more about the joy of Whip It than the studious disenchantment of hipsterdom, and though I liked the concept behind (500) Days of Summer and Joseph Gordon-Leavitt, and though it contradicted Deschanel's character's jaded view of relationships in the end, I still think it had a little too much of the latter.

I hope you end up liking Mysterious Skin! Either way, you should come back and tell me what you think and why. It seems like a book worth discussion, even if you hate it...
